Dr Tracy - Clinical Nutrition

Meet Tracy – Clinical Nutritionist with a Passion for Performance

Tracy O’Brien is a degree-qualified clinical nutritionist with a lifelong passion for sport, performance, and real food. Growing up in Canberra surrounded by elite junior athletes, Tracy played everything from rugby 7s and water polo to cricket and AFL — even co-founding the first women’s AFL team on the Gold Coast with the Burleigh Bombers.

With Italian heritage that instilled a deep love of food and family, Tracy blends the science of nutrition with a holistic, no-fuss approach to fueling the body for life and sport. She’s completed marathons, run the 96km Kokoda trail, and stepped into the ring for masters boxing — so she understands firsthand what it takes to nourish an active body at every stage of life.

Tracy specialises in sports nutrition, hormone health, gut support, and fatigue management, helping athletes of all ages optimise their performance, recovery, and overall health — beyond just the macros.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – NUTRITION SERVICES

How do I book an appointment with your nutritionist?
Booking with Tracey, our in-house Nutritionist, is easy. You can either call our friendly team on 0493 711 967 or request an appointment online here.

Do I need a referral to see a nutritionist?
No referral is required. You can book directly with our in-house nutritionist, Tracy, at any time — no GP referral needed. Just choose the appointment type that suits you best: in-person or telehealth.

What does a nutritionist do?
A clinical nutritionist uses food as medicine to support your body’s natural healing processes. Tracy provides evidence-based advice tailored to your specific health needs, whether that’s hormone support, weight management, gut health, fatigue, or sports nutrition. She also works alongside other allied health professionals for a fully integrated care plan.

What happens in a nutrition consult?
In your initial session, Tracy will take a detailed case history, including your symptoms, medical background, diet, and lifestyle. From there, she’ll build a personalised nutrition plan to support your goals — whether that’s rebalancing hormones, managing food intolerances, improving digestion, or boosting performance. You’ll leave with practical, realistic strategies (not fad diets!).

How long is each appointment?
Initial nutrition consults are 60 minutes, giving Tracy the time to properly assess your needs and begin building your treatment plan. Follow-up appointments are typically 30–45 minutes, depending on your progress and the level of support required.

Can I claim nutrition sessions through private health insurance?
Yes — if you have extras cover that includes nutrition or natural therapies, you may be eligible for a rebate. We can provide an invoice for claiming directly with your health fund. Please check your policy for specific cover.

Do you accept DVA or WorkCover referrals for nutrition?
At this time, nutrition services are not covered by DVA or WorkCover. However, you’re very welcome to book privately. We do work closely with GPs and other practitioners to ensure continuity of care if you’re under a broader treatment plan.

Do you offer online nutrition appointments?
Yes. Tracy offers telehealth nutrition consultations for clients across Queensland and beyond. Your session will be conducted via secure video, and all advice, plans and resources will be emailed to you post-appointment. Telehealth consults are just as thorough as in-person visits, with the added convenience of staying home.
