About Mikayla Dow

Mikayla is a remedial massage therapist with a strong foundation in movement, performance and rehabilitation. She holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage, Certificate III and IV in Fitness, and is a Zenthai Shiatsu Level 1 practitioner.

Her sessions are active and collaborative. Alongside soft tissue work she uses cupping and muscle energy techniques that involve movement during treatment, not just passive pressure.

Mikayla's story

Massage that moves

Mikayla came to remedial massage from fitness and movement, including qualifications as a fitness instructor and advanced pole instructor. She understands how strength, flexibility and control work together, and how quickly the body adapts to what you ask of it.

That background shows in her treatment. Rather than lying still for an hour, you will often be asked to move, contract or breathe into a stretch while she works, which helps the changes carry over into how you move afterwards.

Mikayla is a registered member of Massage and Myotherapy Australia.

Questions

Seeing Mikayla: common questions

What are muscle energy techniques?

Muscle energy techniques (METs) use gentle contractions of your own muscles against light resistance to help a tight area relax and lengthen.

Does cupping leave marks?

It can leave round marks for a few days. They are not usually painful. Mikayla will talk you through it and you can always say no.

Can I claim on private health insurance?

Yes, if your extras cover includes remedial massage. We claim on the spot in the clinic, so you only pay the gap. Your rebate depends on your fund and level of cover.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly online or by calling 07 5651 6594. If you have scans, reports or a GP letter, bring them along.

Where is the clinic and when is it open?

Good Joint is at 2563 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach, a short drive from Broadbeach, Miami and Burleigh Heads. We are open Monday to Friday, 7:15am to 6:30pm.
